1992: L.A. Riots

Moment in History:

The L.A. Riots of 1992 erupted in the wake of the acquittal of four Los Angeles County police officers who brutally beat motorist Rodney King, despite graphic evidence of the incident caught on camera. The announcement of the release of the four police officers spurred rioting and looting in Los Angeles and left 55 people dead, almost 2,000 injured, and led to 7,000 arrests, and nearly one billion dollars in property damage, including nearly 4,000 burned buildings, over the course of three days.
