1985: Democratic Leadership Council

Moment in History:

The Democratic Leadership Council, founded in 1985 by Al From, was a response to a significant decrease in white voter support as evidenced by the 1984 loss of Walter Mondale against Ronald Reagan. The DLC was an effort to re-brand the Democratic Party in a shift away from their identity as the minority party and the influence of the left since the 1960s.
