Rich Benjamin

Author, Searching for Whitopia

Rich Benjamin, PhD, is the author of Searching for Whitopia: An Improbable Journey to the Heart of White America (Hyperion Books 2009), selected for an Editor’s Choice award from Booklist and the American Library Association. Benjamin’s book, Searching for Whitopia, chronicles his journey through America’s increasingly trendy and quickly expanding white enclaves. Benjamin lived in three of these “whitopias” in an effort to understand how and why these communities are forming, how they function, and to examine the political implications of the trend.

Rich’s social and political commentary appear regularly in the media, including The New York Times, NPR, MSNBC, CSPAN, New York Times Sunday Book Review and Time. He is a regular contributor to FOX News television shows. Rich holds a BA from Wesleyan University and a PhD from Stanford. He is a member of the Authors Guild, Pen American Center, and the National Book Critics Circle.
